TAMARAC, FL – On May 2, 2023, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick issued a statement in response to reports of a shooting at a Lauderdale Lakes Walmart.
“I’m saddened to learn about a heartbreaking shooting that occurred earlier today at a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes. My heart goes out to the victim and their loved ones, along with the entire Lauderdale Lakes community, during this difficult time. I commend Broward law enforcement officials, who responded swiftly to the incident and have since brought the suspect into custody. My office will continue to closely monitor this situation and remains on standby to provide any support that is needed.”
“Gun violence wreaks havoc on communities nationwide, and today it struck Florida’s 20th Congressional District. Congress has a critical role to play in responding to this epidemic: enabling law enforcement officials with the resources to respond to these incidents, while simultaneously preventing firearms from ending up in the hands of dangerous individuals. No community is left unscathed by this worsening crisis. We need to act now, before more communities fall victim to gun violence. One victim is one too many."
