Residents in North Palm Beach are paying a lot of money to get their RVs in compliance with a long-time ordinance that the village has decided to enforce.
Failure to comply with the ordinance dictating the storage of boats and recreational vehicles in residential properties has resulted in steep fines of $250 daily until they are compliant and required appearances before the magistrate to plead their case, according to the Palm Beach Post.
While the ordinance has been in effect for 50 years, strict enforcement of it didn’t come until 2018. With modificationa the ordinance underwent in July, dozens of residents are struggling to come into compliance.
One such family is the Frerkings, who complained to the Post that two months to comply is not sufficient. They claimed they never received the letter for the ordinance due to being out of town when it changed.
With having to contact contractors, receive bids, and acquire the necessary permits to allow new fencing and shrubbery on the property, the Frerkings don’t believe they have enough time and plan to ask for an extension when they see the special magistrate.
