The North Palm Beach Police Department recently agreed to a nationwide pledge among law enforcement agencies to set a goal of increasing the representation of women in the department to 30 percent by 2030, and to ensuring policies and culture support the success of qualified women officers throughout their careers.

More than 195 agencies throughout the nation have agreed to the pledge, known as the 30 by 30 Initiative (30x30), and more are signing on frequently. Large cities in Florida such as Miami and Orlando have pledged, as have many smaller towns and communities throughout the country.

Mayor Deborah Searcy said, "I am so proud of our Police Department for agreeing to the national 30x30 plan. It shows that the Village is staying current with the best ideas in municipal law enforcement, and it ensures that women will have great opportunities to contribute their talents and skills as police officers to the people of North Palm Beach for many years to come."

The 30x30 pledge is a flexible framework that encourages agencies to share their stumbling blocks while celebrating victories. By signing onto the 30×30 pledge, agencies agree to report on their efforts to identify and address obstacles that women officers face in recruitment and during their careers in law enforcement.

“We are honored to be among the first departments in the nation to make this critical commitment, and we look forward to working with and learning from agencies across the country who share our priority,” said Chief Rick Jenkins.
