Beginning July 1st, a new Florida law (F.S.S. 163.211) will prohibit municipalities like the Village from requiring licenses for some, but not all, home repair- and construction-related trades.

However, Florida law requires contractors to pull a permit for some types of work, such as flooring at condominiums. But for a contractor to pull a permit, a local contractor's license is required by state law. Without a Village-issued license, many tradespeople, particularly "handyman" workers, will not be able to get permits. The new law does not apply to electricians, plumbers and some other fields.

There are challenges to this new law, so if you are a contractor or if you are considering hiring someone to work on your condominium, please check the following Village communication outlets periodically for updates:

  • Village website:
  • Village Facebook page
  • Village Twitter page
  • Village Nextdoor page (requires an account to see)
For questions, contact the Building Division at (561) 841-3365.
