Our Town with William Kelly: Today is the deadline to participate in town survey

Time is running out for those who haven’t taken advantage of a rare opportunity to share their thoughts about all aspects of life in Palm Beach.

Today – Friday, August 19 – is the last day to complete and submit your answers for the Town of Palm Beach’s digital community survey. That means that anyone who has not done so has until midnight tonight, Assistant Town Manager Carolyn Stone said.

Full- and part-time residents, people who work in the town, and those who are guests on the island, are encouraged to participate. The survey contains up to 50 questions, most of which are related to the quality of life in Palm Beach.

The town emailed the survey on July 21 to 8,700 addresses on its email alert list. A link to the survey is also on the town’s website and there is also a link to it at the bottom of this article.

Mayor Danielle Moore said at the Aug. 9 Town Council meeting that the number of respondents had exceeded 1,200 – more than three times the minimum response needed for a legitimate sample of community opinion.

“It’s really encouraging to see so many people responding to the survey,” she said.

The nine-member Strategic Planning Board, chaired by Moore, will use the results when developing a new strategic plan for the town.

The plan will set long-term goals and help provide policy direction for town government. The last strategic plan was adopted in 2003 and last updated in 2012. The new plan is due for submission to the council for its approval next spring.
